Published on 28/04/2025, United KingdomIn over 50 years of DIYing I've always thought I could manage without a circular saw, but a recent project involving cutting a lot of chipboard sheets made me change my mind. I've got several other Makita tools and they all exude quality, hence my choice of their M5802. Wow, why didn't I buy one years ago? If you clamp straightedge to the board to run the saw along it is easy to get arrow-straight cuts, much better than using a jig saw and obviously less effort than a hand saw. The M5802 is also supplied with a fence attachment for making parallel cuts. The blades themselves look quite intimidating, and you need to think what you're doing when it's turning, but like other examples it has a retracting blade cover to minimise exposure. It does make a lot of noise and dust when it's cutting, so you'll probably want to use it outdoors.
