Description

1) Reliable protection for three-phase circuits – 3P C40A modular circuit breaker (without RCD)Designed to be integrated into an electrical consumer unit, this miniature circuit breaker (MCB) primarily provides protection against overloads and protection against short circuits across three poles. Its modular format makes integration on a DIN rail easy and helps organise outgoing circuits in domestic or commercial enclosures. It is a relevant solution for securing conductors, devices and distribution circuits by limiting the risks linked to abnormal current (cable overheating, insulation deterioration, material damage). Please note: this is a non-RCD circuit breaker; it does not replace personal protection against indirect contact.2) Essential characteristics in line with European practices (EN 60898-1)This model is a 3P (three-pole) modular circuit breaker suitable for installations requiring the simultaneous disconnection of three phases, particularly for three-phase equipment or outgoing circuits. It is rated for a nominal current of 40 A, a common choice for intermediate-power circuits in workshops, shops, offices or small technical installations. It operates on AC 230/400 V (50–60 Hz networks), covering the usual configurations in Europe. Its C tripping curve is suitable for most “standard” loads while better tolerating starting inrush currents than a B curve. Its 6 kA breaking capacity meets many common distribution contexts; in an environment with a higher prospective short-circuit current, verification by a professional remains essential.3) C curve: a good compromise for common loads and moderate startsThe C curve is particularly appreciated when a circuit supplies loads that may have an inrush current on start-up: small motors, fans, pumps, moderately sized compressors, certain air-conditioning equipment or light machine tools (depending on actual power ratings). It limits nuisance tripping while maintaining effective protection against overcurrents. For highly inductive loads or heavy starts, selecting a different curve (e.g. D curve) may be more appropriate: sizing must then take into account the starting regime, line length, conductor cross-section and installation conditions.4) Important: this product does not provide residual current protection (anti-leakage / anti-electric shock)This circuit breaker has no residual current function: it mainly monitors overcurrent (overload) and short circuit, but does not detect insulation faults to earth and does not, on its own, ensure protection of people against the risks of electric shock/electrocution. For an installation in line with good practice, particularly in sensitive areas (outdoor sockets, damp rooms, kitchen, bathroom, technical rooms), it is generally recommended to combine it with an RCCB (residual current circuit breaker) upstream or to opt for an RCBO (residual current breaker with overcurrent protection) depending on the consumer unit layout and the level of selectivity required. This “MCB vs residual current” distinction is essential for choosing the right safety combination.5) Installation and selection advice: safety, selectivity and network compatibilityInstallation in an electrical consumer unit must be carried out by a competent person, in compliance with wiring practices (tightening torque, cross-sections, identification, continuity of protection, etc.). The 40 A rating should not be chosen simply “for convenience”: it must correspond to the conductor cross-section, installation method, ambient temperature and the current actually expected, in order to prevent a cable from overheating before the protection trips. The 6 kA breaking capacity must also be consistent with the prospective short-circuit current at the installation point (particularly near a transformer or in certain industrial configurations). Finally, this circuit breaker can be used as a manual control to isolate an outgoing circuit during maintenance, while ensuring clear disconnection and safer circuit operation.
