General description

Osmo Decking Oil in Grey is designed to enhance the natural beauty of wooden decking while providing robust protection. This oil penetrates deeply into the wood, ensuring that the natural wood character remains visible. It is safe for humans, animals, and plants once dry, and offers high resistance to water and dirt, making it an ideal choice for outdoor applications.

Technical specifications

  • Volume: 2.5 Litres
  • Dry time: 12 hours
  • Coverage: 24 m²/L with one coat
  • Recommended coats: 2 coats or one coat plus top coat of Osmo Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430
  • Moisture content max. for application: 20%
  • Surface preparation

  • Bare wood species with high natural extractives need to weather for a minimum of 4 weeks before initial treatment.
  • Resinous woods like Larch or Douglas Fir require at least 6 weeks of weathering.
  • Pressure impregnated wood and tropical species (e.g., Massaranduba, Bangkirai, Garapa, Iroko) need 3 months of weathering.
  • Cedar also requires a 3-month weathering period.
  • Greyed and weathered wood can be refreshed with Osmo Wood Reviver Power-Gel before applying the oil.
  • Ensure the wood surface is clean, dry, and frost-free before application.
  • Installation

  • Stir the oil well using a flat stirring stick or spatula before use.
  • Clean or lightly sand old microporous stains; completely remove old varnishes if necessary.
  • For fresh wood species, weathering may be required after sanding to improve absorbency.
  • Apply the first coat to all sides of the wood if possible before installation.
  • Use a stiff brush (Osmo Flat Brush) or a lint-free cloth for application, applying thinly and evenly along the wood grain.
  • For easier application, consider using the Osmo Decking Brush (150 mm).
  • Allow for good ventilation while drying; lower temperatures and higher humidity will delay drying.
  • Usage

  • Apply a second coat once the first is dry, also thinly.
  • If a lighter color is desired, use clear Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 for the second coat.
  • Choose richer and darker colors for higher UV protection.
  • Avoid using clear Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 as a standalone finish due to limited UV protection.
  • Other information

  • Always wear a dust mask when sanding.
  • A trial application is recommended for unfamiliar surfaces to assess the finished look.
  • If additional protection against blue stain, rot, and insect attack is desired, pre-treat the wood with Osmo WR Impregnation.
