Description

General description

Osmo Decking Oil in Black is designed to enhance and protect wooden decking while maintaining the natural character of the wood. This oil is safe for humans, animals, and plants once dry, and it provides excellent water and dirt resistance. Its microporous, penetrating finish prevents cracking, peeling, or flaking, making it ideal for outdoor use.

Surface preparation

Bare wood species with high natural extractives need to weather for a minimum of 4 weeks before treatment.

Resinous wood (e.g., Larch, Douglas Fir) requires at least 6 weeks of weathering.

Pressure impregnated wood and tropical species (e.g., Massaranduba, Bangkirai, Garapa, Iroko) need 3 months of weathering.

Cedar also requires a 3-month weathering period.

Greyed and weathered wood can be refreshed with Osmo Wood Reviver Power-Gel before applying the oil.

Ensure the wood surface is clean, dry, and frost-free before application.

Installation

Stir the oil well using a flat stirring stick or spatula before use.

Clean or lightly sand old microporous stains or completely remove old varnishes prior to application.

If sanding is necessary, use a finishing grade of no more than P120 grit.

Apply the first coat to all sides of the wood if possible before installation.

Usage

Apply the oil thinly and evenly along the wood grain using a stiff brush (Osmo Flat Brush) or a lint-free cloth.

For easier application, use the Osmo Decking Brush (150 mm) designed specifically for decking.

Allow for good ventilation while drying; lower temperatures and higher humidity can delay drying.

After the first coat is dry, apply a second coat thinly.

If a lighter color is desired, use clear Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 for the second coat.

Choose darker colors for enhanced UV protection.

Other information

Avoid using jet or power washers to clean the surface, as this can affect coverage.

For additional protection against blue stain, rot, and insect attack, pre-treat the wood with Osmo WR Impregnation if possible.
