Pool and spa water must be disinfected and sterilized with chlorine, and the pH level affects the effectiveness of chlorine. If the pH is too high, chlorine will be ineffective. If the pH is too low, the chlorine dissolves too quickly, and proper disinfection and sterilization are impossible. When chlorine and pH levels are unbalanced, pool water can easily cause diarrhea, ear infections, and skin infections.

The recommended chlorine level for pools and spas is 1.2 to 1.7 pH, and the pH is 7.2 to 7.8. If your pool or spa water quality is not within this range after testing, you must adjust the pH and chlorine levels of your water.
