General description

The Rustins Wood Bleach Set (A & B Solution 500ml) effectively removes weather stains and discolorations from bare wood, making it lighter in color. This product is ideal for bleaching natural timber to a lighter shade, allowing for subsequent staining with Rustins Wood Dyes.

Preparation

This product works only on bare wood.

All varnish, lacquer, or polish must be removed before applying the solutions.

Old finishes can be effectively removed using Rustins Strypit Paint and Varnish Stripper.

For best results, remove as much of the old finish as possible with a scraper, dampen the surface with Strypit, and rub with the grain using NO 1 or 2 steel wool.

Wipe the surface with a clean rag and allow it to dry.

Application

Apply solution A to clean, dry wood with a brush and leave for 10-20 minutes before applying solution B.

Note that some woods may darken upon application of solution A.

The actual bleaching occurs after applying solution B.

Ensure sufficient solution is applied to prevent drying out, as dried product can form difficult-to-remove crystals.

After applying solution B, allow a minimum drying time of 2 hours.

If the wood is very dark or badly stained, repeat the application of both solutions after 2 hours.

Effective at lightening untreated, yellow-toned hardwood although you’d probably need two applications if you wanted a really pale look. I’m following it up with a silver/grey finish so I’m not so bothered.
