The role of the bleeder is to ensure that your radiators can continue to operate efficiently over time. Indeed, maintaining your devices is essential to experience the benefits of optimal comfort.
Bleeding your radiator each year helps eliminate air that infiltrates the hot water pipes. This allows you to avoid plumbing noises, reduced performance of your devices, and an increase in your energy bill.
When to bleed your radiators?
It is recommended to perform this operation a little before winter in anticipation of continuous use. You can also carry out this operation when the temperature is milder or if your radiators tend to make noises.
How to bleed your radiators?
You will need to equip yourself with a container to collect the water that may flow from the system. In some cases, you will need a bleed key. This scenario is common with older devices.
We advise you to start bleeding the radiators located at the beginning of the hot water circuit and finish with those that are farther away, especially if you have a multi-story house.
Here are the steps to perform this operation:
- Turn off the pump or accelerator as per the specific terms.
- Once the radiators are cold, turn the bleeder screw located opposite the adjustment valve until a slight hissing sound is heard.
- As soon as the water flows continuously, you can tighten the bleeder screw.
- Once this operation is completed, restore the pressure by activating the fill valve until the pressure gauge indicates 1 to 1.5 bars (single-story house/apartment) or 1.8 to 2 bars (multi-story house). Then close the fill valve.
The automatic bleeder
If you want to avoid manually bleeding your radiators, we recommend using the automatic bleeder. It is equipped with a floating mechanism that enables it to expel air from your system through a small orifice located on its upper part without any intervention on your part.
If you want to equip yourself with such a system, we recommend installing one next to your boiler and another on the radiator located at the far end of your heating circuit.
