Note:

The 512 has only one mode, probe mode. Receiver in probe mode. Look for signals emitted by a small detector or camera with a built-in transmitter that has been routed through a conduit. The detector should emit a 512 Hz signal, and the receiver can determine the approximate depth of the target. Start by turning on the receiver, walk, keep the receiver at waist height, and walk in the general direction of the transmitter while slowly sweeping the receiver while pointing it in the direction of the transmitter. You will notice the signal increase. As you get closer, reduce the sensitivity as needed to keep it within range. Switch to proximity when you can't keep the meter below full scale. Continue in the direction of the strongest signal. When you reach the point where the signal appears strongest, regardless of the direction you move, it will be weaker, so you know you've found a detector that's just below the center of the target. Move to another location, look for that peak signal again, and see if you always return to the same spot for confirmation. If you've followed each step correctly, you should find yourself above the target each time. Keep practicing until you get consistent results.
