Description
Sikkens Rubbol AZ Plus is a high build, solvent-borne high gloss opaque finish based on a superior blend of Long Oil alkyd resins.
It's simply stunning opacity, brilliant finish and low maintenance characteristics make it a regular choice by specifiers for the exteriors of prestigious buildings.
We think its the best high gloss finish currently available in the UK.
Specifically formulated exterior use, on timber primed with Sikkens Rubbol Primer Plus (originally known as Sikkens Onol), and on suitably primed metal substrates.
Sikkens Rubbol AZ Plus can be brush or spray applied to give a high "enamel" gloss finish of superb quality and durability.
It's a little softer and more extensible than a traditional interior gloss, this enables it to cope with the expansion and contraction of exterior substrates as they heat and cool.
However, despite these characteristic's it can still be used for interior project's if neccessary - although it wouldn't be our first choice.
Sikkens Rubbol AZ Plus combines standards of extensibility, adhesion and colour retention not found in traditional paints, allowing one coat redecoration and substantially increased time between redecoration's.
Maximum theoretical spreading rate 16-18 square meters per litre, this will vary depending on the porosity and profile of the substrate.
Touch dry in approximately 2.5 hours. Minimum overcoating interval 18 hours.
These times are based on a temperature of 20°C, normal relative humidity and good drying conditions. Do not apply if application or drying temperatures are below 5°C.
Sikkens Rubbol AZ Plus is available in 1 litre and 5 litre sizes in White and Black.

Sikkens is a Dutch company founded in 1792 by a house painter, Wiert Willem Sikkens. In Groningen, he began by manufacturing his own lacquers and varnishes, drawing on his experience. In 1837, his son, Geert Willem Sikkens, succeeded him and, realising the potential of his father's lacquers and varnishes, set up G.W. Sikkens & Co. with his brother-in-law, Willem Penaat. A new factory was built in 1869 to cope with increased demand as the reputation of Sikkens products spread across borders.
By 1900, the company had a laboratory that enabled it to create Japanese varnishes and fast-drying paints for the automotive sector; in 1928 Sikkens revolutionised the lacquer sector with its cellulose-based lacquers and Rubbol AZ synthetic paints. After the war, it became the foundation of the global paint giant AkzoNobel by merging with a number of European companies.
Sikkens is now part of a group with a turnover of over €14 billion, and is renowned for such projects as the London Eye, the Scala in Milan and the Øresund bridge between Denmark and Sweden. AkzoNobel owns prestigious brands such as Dulux Valentine, Bofors and Xyladecor.
