How to choose your marking accessory?
On ManoMano, we have three main types of tools for marking: markers, chalks, and pencils.
First of all, markers. These can have tips of very variable sizes. There are different kinds of markers: permanent markers are, as the name suggests, non-erasable. Most are water-resistant and can write on smooth surfaces, and sometimes even on porous ones when indicated. Paint markers are also permanent and can be used on really difficult surfaces like rusty metal. Finally, we also have liquid chalk markers, which are easily erasable and used for writing on windows or slates.
As for chalks, we find industrial chalk and forestry chalk, which are respectively wax and oil-based and intended for multiple uses. We also have "Briançon" chalk, made from steatite, which is particularly suited for welding work as it resists temperatures up to 2000°C.
If you are looking for precision in your marking, choose a universal pencil. With its robust and easy-to-sharpen lead, it will accompany you everywhere and can be used on multiple surfaces. Need to mark wet wood? Opt for aniline pencil, which is between a graphite pencil and an ink pencil. Are you a carpenter or do you work on wooden surfaces? The carpenter's pencil, also called carpenter's pencil, is both precise and durable, making it perfect for you.
We also offer several accessories to facilitate the use of your chalks and pencils, such as chalk holders or pencil sharpeners.
In short, the choice of your marking accessory will depend mainly on one criterion: the surface on which it will be used (wet or dry wood, metal, glass, plastic, stone...). Then comes precision, which should not be overlooked either. It is indeed obvious that pencils with their fine leads will be more precise than chalks.
