With the arrival of the warm weather, swimming pools become a must, and it's particularly important to facilitate their access with a ladder. There are different models and materials available, with the choice depending on the type of pool, above-ground or in-ground.
To make the right choice for a pool ladder, one must consider the pool's dimensions, depth, and whether it is raised or in-ground. It's also important to determine the budget. Indeed, the price of these ladders can vary from around forty euros to a hundred and more, depending on the model and material. Here are some tips for correctly choosing a pool ladder:
- opt for a stainless steel pool ladder, as it withstands the weather better and doesn't wear out as easily as a powder-coated steel ladder;
- ensure the ladder is suitable for the height of the above-ground pool;
- calculate its load capacity to ensure it can support 150 Kg or more;
- prefer modular and portable ladders for above-ground pools so they can be removed during the winter;
- secure access to the pool with ladders that have detachable steps to limit pool access to children.
For in-ground pool ladders, models with three or four steps, or more depending on the depth of the pool, are recommended. They are generally attached to the edges of pools in strategic places. The frames and steps are usually made of non-slip stainless steel. Moreover, pool step ladders come in several colors, although those in natural steel color are more appealing. Manufacturers also offer ladders with steps made of non-slip plastic, which are safer models for children.
Before equipping a pool with an access or exit ladder, it's essential to take necessary measurements, especially for semi-in-ground or fully above-ground pools. The height of this type of pool is around 132 cm or more. The ideal ladders should therefore exceed this height, about 195 cm, so that swimmers can access or exit without much difficulty. Moreover, those using an above-ground pool ladder must be extra cautious.
Adult supervision is highly recommended to avoid accidents, hence the recommendation of detachable pool ladders to prevent children from accessing them unsupervised.
Another point not to neglect in the choice of pool ladders is the step width. The minimum size should be at least 42 cm, and more depending on the pool's dimensions.
