To ensure the security and aesthetics of your home are not compromised, several steps must be followed when choosing your lock.
Firstly, it is necessary to choose the place of use for your lock, which will determine the door opening system (handle, pull, thumbturn, etc.). For instance, a bathroom door is usually equipped with a thumbturn and a locking button, so there is no key entry. On the other hand, a front door requires a more secure key locking mechanism.
Next, the frequency of use primarily dictates the type of latch you will need. A roller latch, for example, is ideal for shops because it allows opening in both directions and is designed for intensive and prolonged use. A spring latch, however, is the perfect balance of aesthetics, practicality, and security, making it the most widespread system.
Finally, many users are confused when choosing the direction of installation for the lock. It is sometimes indicated by left or right, or even pull or push. To be sure, it is advisable to agree on the perspective to take. One should stand inside the closed area and note whether the door needs to be pulled or pushed to exit. Then, observe if the handle is on the left or right of the central axis of the door.
By default, we provide the lock direction for a pulling door, which means it must be pulled to exit a room. If you wish to install a pushing door with a right-hand lock, you should then purchase a left-hand lock.

For those who are not daunted, it is necessary to define some important measurements to avoid turning your front door into a sieve. The center distance is the segment that connects the key entry (or the center of the locking button) with the base of the handle (the square). The key axis, or simply axis, is the segment that separates the center of the key entry from the nearest edge of the door. Finally, you must measure your lock (thickness, width, height, without the faceplate) and mark the positions on the edge of your door. For clean and efficient work, it is preferable to have a drill with a wood bit, wood chisels, and a hole saw.
