Wood wax: make the right choice

Tinted or untinted maintenance wax differs from filler wax in that filler wax repairs holes or cracks in a wooden surface while maintenance wax is primarily used to rejuvenate your wooden furniture or parquet floors. The color of the wax is crucial for both types: for cabinetmaking wax, it’s better to enhance the tone of your base to give it more durability, without altering its color and choosing a wax that's too dark for the wood.
But why opt for wax over varnish? First of all, maintenance wax is a natural treatment, meaning it's the only option that preserves the traditional look of your wooden surface. Besides, it enhances the aesthetics of your wooden floor or furniture. A waxed finish forms a thin protective layer that permeates the wood's pores.
To wax a parquet floor, you can apply a sealer varnish before waxing to reduce the wood's porosity by filling the pores, thus two coats of wax will be sufficient to complete your work. Don’t forget to sand between each wax coat applied to keep the surface smooth. If you wish to give a glossy look to your parquet or furniture, it's possible to use a mono-brush or polisher on your wooden surface.
To clean the waxed surface nothing could be simpler: just dust the surface then clean it dry using a wood cleaning paste which effectively removes dirt from waxed surfaces. Note, a distinction should be made between pastes for waxed or varnished surfaces: to do this you can test by pouring a little water on the furniture, if it soaks into the wood your furniture is waxed, if it doesn't it means your furniture is varnished.
