Bath mats are designed to serve a number of purposes. The main function of this accessory is, of course, to absorb the dripping water as you get out of the bath or shower. But a good bath mat will also catch splashes from the shower itself. Essential for safety, bath mats help to limit the risk of falling or slipping when getting out of the water. Finally, they avoid you having to step directly onto a cold floor.
Bath mats come in a wide range of materials.
Synthetic mats dry more quickly and are very washable. On the other hand, they absorb less water.
Cotton bath mats are popular thanks to their impressive absorption capacity and soft touch underfoot.
Wooden bath mats, or duckboards, are usually made from bamboo. Though quick to dry, they can also be quite slippy.
Made of coconut or rush grass fibres, this type of bath mat absorbs water with ease.
From round, square or rectangular mats to special designs such as animal shapes, bath mats come in all different forms. You can also choose from endless colour and pattern options. Go for a beige mat for a neutral bathroom or an orange mat for a splash of colour. A pebble design will fit in well with a seaside theme while an imitation grass mat will be perfect for a natural look.
Most bath mats have a non-slip coating on the bottom to offer the best protection against slips and falls. Some models are even equipped with suction cups for better floor adherence.
Bath mats come in all different sizes. In order to make the right choice, think about the size of your bathroom.
