Different types of door mats
Door mats come in a variety of different materials.
Wrought iron door mats
Wrought iron door mats are usually the most decorative option. Traditional in style, these door mats can be used to add a touch of elegance to your front door.
Coir door mats
Probably the most common door mat material, coir matting contains natural fibres derived from coconuts. Coir door mats are efficient, hard-wearing and moisture-resistant which explains their popularity!
Cotton door mats
Cotton door mats are highly absorbent – even more so than coir door mats!
Polypropylene door mats
The main advantages of polypropylene are that it is non-slip and fairly cheap. Polypropylene door mats usually come with a vinyl underlay or an aluminium grid beneath the mat itself.
Rubber door mats
Rubber door mats are often made to look like wrought iron and are ideal for outdoor use, as they are weatherproof and UV-resistant.
Synthetic fibre door mats
Synthetic door mats are abrasive and hardwearing. However, they do not offer the best absorption.

How to choose the right door mat
There are a few different factors to take into consideration when choosing a door mat.
Size
It's important to choose a door mat that matches the width of your front door so it fits snugly in the door frame.
Shape
Door mats are usually rectangular in shape, but it is also possible to find circular or half-moon designs.
Style
Door mats come in a range of designs to suit your decorative tastes. Choose between plain colours, patterns or even a funny message to welcome your guests!
