The word "faucet" originally referred to an animal. Indeed, "robin" was the word used for the sheep breed (sheep, rams, etc.) in the Middle Ages. It was also during this period that many fountains were adorned with "robin" heads. Six centuries later, the word entered common language. It is believed that the first type of faucet was invented by George Fancell of Roches Bourgnione, but the technology for simple taps and mixers (valve-based) did not appear until the 1830s, by an unknown inventor.
The mixer tap has two heads: one for hot water and the other for cold water. Formerly the most popular choice among DIY enthusiasts and professionals, the mixer is now losing ground to the simpler mixer tap: consisting of a single lever capable of controlling both water flow and temperature.
Yet, like the punk movement of the 1970s, the mixer "is not dead".
Indeed, a mixer tap can give your bathroom a certain traditional, authentic, or even rustic ambiance. Thus, this type of faucet is experiencing a resurgence of interest because it creates a genuine atmosphere.
The technology of these mixer taps is also evolving. Most of the mixer faucets sold on our site benefit from the latest technological advancement: ceramic heads. These are much more efficient than their valve counterparts and do not require maintenance: there's no need to change the washer once a year to prevent leaks. Changing the ceramic cartridge is much less frequent and very simple.
