Table lamps enhance the outdoor space at dusk. They are usually installed on the terrace and under the awnings to enjoy a pleasant dinner under the stars. However, beyond their pleasant aspect, safety and comfort remain the main factors justifying their presence outdoors.
- These light fixtures are essential for guiding guests during summer evenings. The table lamps should thus be placed along the paths leading to the main door or near garden accesses.
- Table lamps contribute to safety. Indeed, thanks to the diffused light, ill-intentioned people are deterred from approaching for fear of being spotted.
- Lamps should be placed on ponds or bodies of water to signal them to passersby, thus avoiding accidents.
It should be noted that some lighting models are not mandatory, as they simply contribute to the aesthetic of the outdoor space. This includes outdoor lighting installed to highlight a tree, a shrub, or a flower bed.
If in the past, the placement of light fixtures had to be planned in relation to the power source, this problem is now solved thanks to self-sufficient LED lighting. This type of lighting is not connected to any wires. Moreover, it can emit several colors. Some can even be controlled remotely with a remote control.
Besides design and practicality, safety is a criterion not to be neglected when choosing a table lamp. Several standards are indeed imposed.
- The standard NF C15-100 governs low voltage electrical installations. To check, a CE mark is inscribed on the light fixture;
- The Protection Index (IP) must also be present. It must be at least 23 for outdoor lighting.
Nonetheless, an IP 65 is ideal to optimize the safety of installations in case of exposure to water or dust.
