• Rustins French Polish is a high-quality shellac-based finish made from flake shellac dissolved in alcohol. It is ideal for French polishing both dark and light-colored woods, providing a light to medium brown tone. It can also be used to seal wood before waxing, resulting in a smooth, glossy surface. When applied correctly, it produces a high-gloss finish with rapid alcohol evaporation leaving a shellac film on the timber surface. The wood should be clean and smooth, with open grain filled using Rustins Grainfiller if necessary. Furniture to be renovated should be cleaned with White Spirit and fine wire wool to remove grease and wax. Multiple coats can be applied to build the desired shellac layer, with two liberal coats recommended for sealing wood before waxing.
