Description
When rain accumulates season after season, it gradually depletes the water of minerals and causes the pond's hardness to drop below the acceptable level. Below 8 dH, aquatic plants struggle to absorb CO2, fish lose their natural resistance to disease, and algae find fertile ground to proliferate. Moerings GH Plus corrects this imbalance in a controlled manner, without causing chemical shock to your pond.
What really happens when your pond's GH drops too low
The GH value, expressed in degrees dH, measures the concentration of calcium and magnesium dissolved in the water. These two minerals are essential for the pond's biological balance: calcium contributes to the strength of scales and shells, and magnesium is crucial for the photosynthesis of aquatic plants. When rainwater, naturally low in minerals, gradually replaces the pond water, these concentrations drop.
The phenomenon is inevitable and intensifies after prolonged periods of rain. A GH value below 8 dH disrupts CO2 transport, slows plant growth, and weakens fish defenses. The ideal range for a biologically stable pond is between 8 dH and 12 dH.
