The Stanley Sweetheart range is generally superior to Bailey etc. The sole and sides of the planer are perfectly aligned. The adjustment mechanisms are simple and precise, and the iron is made of quality steel! While you can use it straight out of the box, it's always good to prepare the blade with a quick sharpen (even for high-end tools like this one). So, all in all I'm very happy with my purchase and I'm even looking at the #62 scrub plane in the same range!

Published on 21/11/2017, FranceLike any decent tool of this type, the blade is made of steel: it keeps its sharpness for a long time, gliding effortlessly over the wood. It's also easy to sharpen as required. The adjustment mechanism is well thought-out, easy to use, and very comprehensive (depth, cant and mouth) and doesn't slip during use. I guess a professional with high volumes of work to complete would choose an electric model instead. But for an amateur who enjoys the feel of a hand tool, not to mention the lack of noise, this planer is an absolute pleasure.
