Post scan mode

Three different depths are available in stud detection mode: 12 mm (1/2 inch), 25 mm (1 inch), and 38 mm (1.5 inch). First select “StudScan” mode, place the detector on the wall and press the detector button on the side of the tool to calibrate it. The stud finder will indicate the location of the stud with a beep, flashing light, or visual display. For a more accurate measurement, start your detection in 12mm (0.5 inch) mode first.

Note: Be sure not to move the scanner during calibration and calibrate the tool on the wall before each scan.

Metal scan mode

In this mode, the stud scanner is allowed to locate magnetic metal with a maximum depth of 2.3 inches (60 mm).

Note: When a magnetic metal is detected, the screen will display a magnetic mark; when the detected metal is not metal, the screen displays a non-magnetic mark.

AC Scan Mode

In this mode, unshielded AC power wires, electrical wires will not be detected deeper than 2 inches (51 mm), in concrete, enclosed in conduit, present behind a plywood shear wall or metal wall sheathing, or if moisture is present in the environment or scanned surface.

It is important not to move or shake the scanner during calibration and to wait a few seconds for it to complete. If you choose Amount mode, calibrate the tool on the wall to be detected before each scan. In AC/Metal mode, hold it in the air to calibrate.

If the stud finder is lifted off the wall or shakes, it needs to be recalibrated; otherwise, it will affect the analysis result.

If the stud is deeper than the selected mode, full bars will not display on screen. Set the device to Deep Scan mode, recalibrate it and run the scan again.

Calibration button

Press the MODE button to change scanning modes, then calibrate the stud finder by pressing the button on the left. During calibration, the signal bars will gradually decrease and a short beep will sound to confirm the completion of the calibration.

For optimal results, it is important to hold the wall stud finder correctly and move it slowly. To avoid any surprises, remember that studs or joists are typically 16 or 24 inches (41 or 61 cm) apart and 1.5 inches (38 mm) wide. Anything closer together or of a different width may not be a stud, joist or firestop.

Tips: Do not rely exclusively on the stud finder to locate items behind the scanned surface. Use other sources of information to help you locate items before penetrating the surface.
