This is replacing my dad's old Black and Decker hedge trimmers that are about 40 years old. Nice long cutters and very sharp. I found the saw thing on the end didn't seem to be very effective so took a star off. The part of the switch which is in the handle can be easy to not press properly (difficult to explain), just means you have to move you hand to a different part of the handle if it doesn't start. Nice clean lines on my hedges!

I returned it - used, but failing to do what it is supposed to do! The issues? It is made in China, and this, sadly, answers many questions posed by its failure! The Black & Decker claims are that it will cut up to 25mm, as it has 26mm teeth, and that it will also saw up to 35mm, with the 'useful' tip. This tip, with a saw, is too thick, with blunt teeth, and labours when used! It does none of things claimed! In fact it struggled with cutting anything cleanly, and seems to tear at the branches and twigs, leaving an unclean cut. It only managed to cut around 15mm, and anything more it just hacks away. It seems to run as a 400 watt or less, NOT a 600 watt, and having just one speed, which is slow, means it is just not fit for the job. Looking at the blades they look poor quality, and both are not sharp at all! I think this is a mixture of poor, Chinese build and quality, along with stupid health and safety, making it blunt, slow. I sent it back, but have to say ManoMano and Hughes, whom sold it, via ManoMano, were both excellent in customer service!

Cuts though fairly thick twigs without problem and larger branches can be cut with the integral saw blade

The story of Stanley-Black &Decker takes us far back, and it is the story of a great adventure. It all started in 1843, when Frederick Trent Stanley opened a small workshop in New Britain in the American state of Conneticut, to produce small pieces of hardware in cast iron. The small workshop made great success, as did that of his Cousin who had also founded his own tools company; the two merged together. Later in 1910, S. Duncan Black and Alonzo G. Decker, tried their luck with a workshop: 6 years latern they filed a patent for the first electric powertool. Idependantly, the two century-old companies developed thier own and complementary know-how: the first staple gun, the first cordless screwdriver-drill... Finally in 2010, the two giants united under the same group Stanley Black & Deckerto become the world's leader in the manufacturing of tools and safety products. They also acquired prestigious brands such as Facom, Baldwin, Dewalt, MacTools, Bostitch (founded in 1986), Porter Cable (founded in 1906)... Although dince 1843 the workshops have become a groupe employing 40 000 personnel for a turnover of 10 billion dollars, it is the same R&D demand that makes these 3 entrepreneurs move forward.
