Fantastic size for a hamster

It wasn't too bad to build but the instructions are basically useless-you need to figure out the build yourself. the hamster house which is due to go on the top shelf is not possible to build without either very strong glue or specialist wood staples so serves no purpose at all. The little house came in three parts which do not fit together easily. The engineering is rough at best so don't expect flush fittings-there are gaps all over but I don't think enough for the hamster to escape. On a positive note, it is large, the hamster seems happier in it and we could git a 30cm diameter spinning saucer which he can run on which he enjoys a lot. Cleaning is ok as you can take the tray out but of course as it is so large it takes longer. Overall worth it just about although if you are quite handy and have some MDF lying around you could probably knock something up pretty quickly yourself.

Firstly, the layout and dimensions of this cage are excellent and perfect for small furry animals. There is however a huge problem with materials and workmanship. The wood is full of splinters, knotholes and cracks. The pieces do not fit well together and leave gaps in places of up to 10mm. The plastic in the front window rattles very loudly. There are no pilot holes for screws which causes a few pieces of the wood to split. I fixed some of these issues with a tube of aquarium safe silicone sealant. This is safe for rodents, and I used it to fill the gaps left between the shelves and the outer walls of the cage, and around the plastic windows to stop the rattling. I then fixed the splinters by sanding each surface and edge. The cage looks great after this, but a close inspection shows the poor materials and workmanship in manufacturing. Only buy this if you're prepared to use aquarium silicone sealant (NOT bathroom sealant!) and spend a while sanding to make it safe for your small fuzzy pets.
