General description

A bat box can help bats by providing a roost in areas where other sites are lacking. Our bat box kits allow you to provide an ideal roost site for the most common bat in the UK, the Common Pipistrelle bat. Once constructed, each bat box kit will provide a long-lasting dry, draught-free roost site, which is very important for bats. Bat boxes can be mounted on both buildings and trees, and it is recommended to position your box as high as possible in a sheltered, sunny place. Ideally, several boxes should be put up facing different directions to provide a range of conditions. Bats need time to find and explore new homes, and it may take several years before boxes have residents – be patient! Signs of occupation include droppings on the landing area and chittering noises from inside on warm afternoons and evenings.
