Installation
Prepare stained or varnished wood by sanding with 120 grit sandpaper to remove old finishes.
Clean the surface with white spirit and a cloth to remove dust.
For new wood, lightly sand to even out imperfections and wipe down with white spirit.
Stir the tin well to mix the colour pigment.
Test the Woodstain on a small patch to ensure satisfaction with the colour.
Apply the Woodstain in the direction of the grain using a brush.
Allow the first coat to dry for four hours before applying the second coat.
After the second coat, wait another four hours before applying the third coat.
Lightly sand the surface before the third coat for a smoother finish.
Wait 12 hours for the third coat to dry completely, but it will be rainproof in just one hour.
Usage
Ideal for exterior smooth planed doors and windows.
Regular cleaning of treated surfaces will help maintain the Woodstain's condition.
If any stain gets on skin, wash off with warm, soapy water.
For repairs, sand down damaged areas and reapply the Woodstain as needed.
Giving this 4 stars, not 5, purely because it comes out a different colour depending on the wood being painted. Originally bought it to paint our new fence but after one inconspicuous post it looked more dark brown than the grey we were expecting so we abandoned the job. Having bought 2 tins at over £35 a tin, we ended up using it on the decking and new shed instead. They look fabulous, however you wouldn’t think we’d used the same colour paint for both. Colour variations aside, the paint is a good consistency and easy to apply (we used a brush, not a spray). We bought 2 x 2.5 litre tins to do a fence that was 20m long by 2m high. Because of the absorbency of the rough, pressure treated timber, I’m not convinced 2 tins would’ve been enough for one coat on both sides of the fence. Can’t speak for long term durability as it’s only been on the decking a month but no peeling or flaking so far!
