The booster pump is a pump that allows to increase the pressure of the network water and/or keep it constant regardless of consumption variations. The self-priming feature makes it easy to use. This device may or may not be equipped with a bladder tank.
In domestic use, the booster pump is an excellent alternative to address low-pressure problems during high demand periods. This is the case when the shower and the washing machine are used simultaneously. Thanks to an integrated pressure switch, the pump starts and stops automatically as soon as the water pressure increases or decreases.
You can choose between three models. The individual booster pump serves to increase water pressure. It can be coupled with:
- a submersible pump;
- a surface pump.
This device can be connected to the sanitary installation, just after the water meter. It is generally associated with a pump to optimize its performance.
As its name suggests, the booster pump combines a booster and a pump. It operates continuously once the faucet is opened, thereby increasing energy consumption. For intensive use, it is advisable to install a hydrophore group, also known as a booster set.
The booster set includes:
- a booster pump;
- a bladder tank;
- a surface pump.
This equipment is independent. It enables indeed to transport water from wells or a reserve to a dwelling. It is also used for automatic garden irrigation. The bladder tank (balloon or tank) has a variable capacity. Thanks to the pressurized water reserve, the booster pump is less solicited, as it stops automatically when the tank is full. Therefore, the starting frequency is lower if the bladder tank capacity is large. However, the noise level will increase accordingly.
Moreover, the choice of a hydrophore group depends on the following three criteria:
- the flow rate;
- the pressure;
- the discharge height.
The quality of the pumped water must also be considered. The granulometry (less than 5 mm to 20 mm and more) depends on the source, whether it is network water, well water, or river water.
Finally, it is advisable to install a water filtration system and to prefer a sanitary bladder tank for drinking water.
