Description

General description

Osmo Decking Oil in Douglas Fir is designed to enhance and protect wooden decking while maintaining its natural character. This oil is safe for humans, animals, and plants once dry, and it offers high resistance to water and dirt. Its microporous, penetrating finish prevents cracking, peeling, or flaking, making it an ideal choice for outdoor surfaces.

Technical specifications

  • Volume: 750ml
  • Dry time: 12 hours
  • Coverage: 24m²/L with one coat
  • Recommended coats: 2 coats or one coat plus top coat of Osmo Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430
  • Moisture content max: 20%
  • Surface preparation

  • Bare wood species with high natural extractives should weather for a minimum of 4 weeks before treatment.
  • Resinous woods like Larch or Douglas Fir require at least 6 weeks of weathering.
  • Pressure impregnated wood and tropical species need a weathering period of at least 3 months.
  • Cedar also requires a 3-month weathering period.
  • Greyed and weathered wood can be refreshed with Osmo Wood Reviver Power-Gel before applying the oil.
  • Ensure the wood surface is clean, dry, and frost-free.
  • Installation

  • Stir the oil well before use with a flat stirring stick or spatula.
  • Clean or lightly sand old microporous stains; completely remove old varnishes if necessary.
  • For fresh wood species, weathering may be required after sanding.
  • Apply the first coat to all sides of the wood if possible before installation.
  • Usage

  • Apply using a stiff brush (Osmo Flat Brush) or a lint-free cloth, following the wood grain.
  • For easier application, use the Osmo Decking Brush (150 mm).
  • Ensure good ventilation during drying; lower temperatures and higher humidity can delay drying.
  • Apply the second coat thinly once the first coat is dry.
  • If a lighter color is desired, use clear Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 for the second coat.
  • Choose darker colors for enhanced UV protection.
  • Other information

  • Avoid using jet or power washers for cleaning, as they can affect coverage.
  • Always wear a dust mask when sanding.
  • For additional protection against blue stain, rot, and insect attack, pre-treat with Osmo WR Impregnation if possible on all sides.
