General description

Osmo Decking Oil - Bangkirai Dark is designed to enhance the natural beauty of wooden decking while providing robust protection. This oil penetrates deeply into the wood, ensuring a durable finish that is safe for humans, animals, and plants once dry. It is highly resistant to water and dirt, breathable to prevent water logging, and does not crack, peel, or flake. The product is ready to use and requires no thinning.

Surface preparation

Bare wood species with high natural extractives need to weather for a minimum of 4 weeks before treatment.

Resinous woods (e.g., Larch, Douglas Fir) require at least 6 weeks of weathering.

Pressure impregnated wood and tropical species (e.g., Massaranduba, Bangkirai, Garapa, Iroko) need to weather for at least 3 months.

Cedar also requires a 3-month weathering period.

Greyed and weathered wood can be refreshed with Osmo Wood Reviver Power-Gel before applying the oil.

Ensure the wood surface is clean, dry, and frost-free before application.

Installation

Stir the oil well using a flat stirring stick or spatula before use.

Thoroughly clean or lightly sand old microporous stains or completely remove old varnishes prior to application.

If sanding is necessary, use a finishing grade of no more than P120 grit.

Apply the first coat to all sides of the wood if possible before installation.

Use a stiff brush (Osmo Flat Brush) or a lint-free cloth to apply the oil thinly and evenly along the wood grain.

For easier application, the Osmo Decking Brush (150 mm) is recommended.

Allow for good ventilation while drying; lower temperatures and higher humidity will delay drying.

Usage

Apply a second coat once the first coat is dry, also thinly.

If a lighter color is desired, use clear Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 for the second coat.

Choosing a richer, darker color provides higher UV protection.

Avoid using clear Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 as a standalone finish due to limited UV protection.

Other information

Avoid using jet or power washers to clean the surface, as this can affect the coverage of the oil.

Always wear a dust mask when sanding.

For additional protection against blue stain, rot, and insect attack, pre-treat the wood with Osmo WR Impregnation if possible on all sides.
