Description

General description

Osmo Decking Oil for Garapa wood is designed to enhance and protect wooden decking while maintaining the natural character of the wood. This oil is safe for humans, animals, and plants once dry, and it offers high resistance to water and dirt. Its microporous, penetrating finish prevents cracking, peeling, or flaking, and it does not require sanding when topping up the coating.

Technical specifications

  • Volume: 750ml
  • Dry time: 12 hours
  • Coverage: 24m²/L with one coat
  • Recommended coats: 2 coats or one coat plus top coat of Osmo Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430
  • Moisture content max: 20%
  • Surface preparation

  • Bare wood species with high natural extractives need to weather for a minimum of 4 weeks before initial treatment or be cleaned with Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner.
  • Resinous woods like Larch or Douglas Fir require at least 6 weeks of weathering.
  • Pressure impregnated wood and tropical species such as Massaranduba, Bangkirai, Garapa, and Iroko need to weather for at least 3 months.
  • Cedar also requires a 3-month weathering period.
  • Greyed and weathered wood can be refreshed with Osmo Wood Reviver Power-Gel before applying the oil.
  • Ensure the wood surface is clean, dry, and frost-free.
  • Installation

  • Stir the oil well using a flat stirring stick or spatula before use.
  • Thoroughly clean or lightly sand old microporous stains or completely remove old varnishes before application.
  • If sanding is necessary, use a finishing grade of no more than P120 grit.
  • Apply the first coat to all sides of the wood if possible, especially if the wood is absorbent.
  • Usage

  • Apply the oil using a stiff brush (Osmo Flat Brush) or a lint-free cloth, following the wood grain.
  • For easier application, use the Osmo Decking Brush (150 mm), designed specifically for decking.
  • Allow for good ventilation while drying; lower temperatures and higher humidity will delay drying.
  • After the first coat is dry, apply the second coat thinly.
  • If a lighter color is desired, use clear Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 for the second coat.
  • Choose darker colors for better UV protection; avoid using clear Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 as a standalone finish due to limited UV protection.
  • Other information

  • Always wear a dust mask when sanding.
  • A trial application is recommended for unfamiliar surfaces to assess the finished appearance.
  • If additional protection against blue stain, rot, and insect attack is desired, pre-treat the wood with Osmo WR Impregnation.
