General description

Osmo Decking Oil in Grey is designed to enhance and protect wooden decking while maintaining the natural character of the wood. This oil is safe for humans, animals, and plants once dry, and it offers high resistance to water and dirt. Its microporous, penetrating finish prevents cracking, peeling, or flaking, making it an ideal choice for outdoor surfaces.

Surface preparation

Bare wood species with high natural extractives need to weather for a minimum of 4 weeks before initial treatment.

Resinous woods (e.g., Larch, Douglas Fir) require at least 6 weeks of weathering.

Pressure impregnated wood and tropical species (e.g., Massaranduba, Bangkirai) need a weathering period of at least 3 months.

Cedar should also weather for 3 months to improve absorbency.

Greyed and weathered wood can be refreshed with Osmo Wood Reviver Power-Gel before applying the oil.

Installation

Ensure the wood surface is clean, dry, and frost-free.

Stir the oil well before use and do not thin.

Lightly sand old microporous stains or remove old varnishes before application.

For sanding, use a finishing grade of no more than P120 grit and wear a dust mask.

If possible, apply the first coat to all sides of the wood before installation.

Usage

Apply using a stiff brush (Osmo Flat Brush) or a lint-free cloth, ensuring even application along the wood grain.

For easier application, use the Osmo Decking Brush (150 mm) designed specifically for decking.

Allow for good ventilation while drying; lower temperatures and higher humidity can delay drying.

After the first coat is dry, apply a second coat thinly.

If a lighter color is desired, use clear Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 for the second coat.

Choose darker colors for enhanced UV protection; avoid using clear Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 as a standalone finish due to limited UV protection.
