General description

Osmo Decking Oil in Larch is designed to enhance and protect wooden decking while maintaining its natural character. This oil is safe for humans, animals, and plants once dry, and it offers excellent resistance to water and dirt. Its microporous, penetrating finish prevents cracking, peeling, or flaking, ensuring long-lasting protection without the need for sanding when topping up the coating.

Technical specifications

  • Volume: 125ml
  • Dry time: 12 hours
  • Coverage: 24m²/L with one coat
  • Recommended coats: 2 coats or one coat plus top coat of Osmo Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430
  • Moisture content max. for wood surface: 20%
  • Surface preparation

  • Bare wood species with high natural extractives need to weather for a minimum of 4 weeks before initial treatment or be cleaned with Osmo Brush Cleaner and Thinner.
  • Resinous wood (e.g., Larch, Douglas Fir) requires a weathering period of at least 6 weeks.
  • Pressure impregnated wood and tropical species (e.g., Massaranduba, Bangkirai, Garapa, Iroko) need to weather for at least 3 months.
  • Cedar also requires a 3-month weathering period.
  • Greyed and weathered wood can be refreshed with Osmo Wood Reviver Power-Gel before applying the oil.
  • Installation

  • Ensure the wood surface is clean, dry, and frost-free.
  • Stir the oil well before use and do not thin.
  • For best results, apply the first coat to all sides of the wood before installation if possible.
  • Use a stiff brush (Osmo Flat Brush) or a lint-free cloth to apply the oil thinly and evenly along the wood grain.
  • For easier application, use the Osmo Decking Brush (150 mm).
  • Usage

  • Allow for good ventilation while the oil dries.
  • Apply the second coat thinly once the first coat is dry.
  • If a lighter color is desired, use clear Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 for the second coat.
  • Choose richer and darker colors for higher UV protection.
  • Avoid using clear Anti-Slip Decking Oil 430 as a standalone finish due to limited UV protection.
  • Other information

  • Always wear a dust mask when sanding.
  • Lower temperatures and higher humidity levels will delay drying.
  • Thoroughly clean or lightly sand old microporous stains or completely remove old varnishes before application.
  • If sanding is necessary, use finishing grades of no more than P120 grit.
  • For additional protection against blue stain, rot, and insect attack, pre-treat the wood with Osmo WR Impregnation if possible on all sides.
